Remove Extra Characters

QUESTION

I´ve been working on a script and after several versions of it FD keeps on saving characters from all versions. How can I update my characters list and save only the ones that appear on the final version?

ANSWER

{Document/SmartType} {Characters} {Rebuild}

  • Similar question about characters. I have a character that I want to change the name of. In Montage (which I used before FD), I just went to the character list and changed the name and it would change universally. I don't see any way to do this in FD. Can I? Or do I just have to do "find and replace"?
    Thanks.

  • Select DOCUMENT > SMARTTYPE (or CTRL+SHIFT+L). That will open up the Smart Type Dialog. U can delete characters (or any SmartType content) from there.
    CYA!

  • Hi - as for Richard - how do I change the name of a character throughout the whole text?
    Thanks

  • you can just do {edit} {Find} and "replace all"

  • Here's the BIG problem with find and replace-- they will be in all caps even when they're not supposed to be. I'm dealing with this now. What a bore! Please get it together on this one, Final Draft.

  • I'm trying to replace a characters name with find and replace - and I keep running into all kinds of strange bugs. I have FD 8.0.1, and the name keeps popping up in the middle of the word above the name it was supposed to replace. And sometimes when I click "replace" it just jumps to the next word without replacing. VERY weird. I wish I could use Celtx for this project ...
